Drive-in Movie

We finally got to have a team movie night.  Some of you are familiar with Adam's parent's house in Killen. They have a big white house and they project movies onto the side of their house.  It's their own little drive-in movie.  We all went out there for a movie night.  On the menu: pizza, cokes and little debbies (we decided not to do a 5 course meal).  Adam's grandaddy (Harrison "Ike" Clemmons) made us popcorn for the movie.  We watched The Blindside.  It was a toss up between that and Mulan. haha No, really the girls did want to watch Mulan.  We had a great time.  We let some of the younger girls that played with JV (at UNA camp) come along and they seemed to enjoy it too.
Thanks Robin and Amy Rutledge for hosting the drive-in movie.  Thanks Chad Wilson for projecting it.

Ollie the bulldog really enjoyed the girls

It's weird that the movie does not show up in pictures but it was playing at the time.
We had a great view :)

Welcome Coach Cross

We are very excited about our new edition on the Coaching Staff.
Jana Cross is from Loretto High School, graduated in 2006.  She played basketball, volleyball and softball at LHS.  She just graduated from Freed-Hardeman University with her Education degree (grades 4-8).  She played basketball there for 4 years.  She was an All-American.  Jana and I got to play against each other in high school and we also became teammates at FHU my Senior year (her freshman year).

She will be coaching the JV squad and will be an assistant along with Coach Helton this year.  She is the new head coach in softball at Mars Hill and will do a great job with that.
Jana will be teaching and helping out with the 6th grade.  We are so excited to have her with us.  She has already helped the posts in many ways.  I know she will do great things at Mars Hill Bible School.

She also just got engaged :)

Summer Camps

Our varsity and JV went to Lipscomb University Basketball Camp.  It was a 3 day camp and we stayed in the dorms.  The girls really seem to enjoy getting the college experience and staying in the dorms.  However, some of use had the privilege to room with some big bugs.  I didn't sleep to well knowing that they were crawling around.
JV did very well.  We were well over .500.  Varsity played some tough Triple A teams out of Tennessee.  The first 2 days were a battle but the varsity ended strong.
I on the other hand had some semi-miserable experiences.  Coach Cross and I delt with a flat tire in the rough area of Nashville.  Thanks to Beth, Terri and Louann for saving us on that :)

UNA camp was so refreshing.  Last year we were 2-7 with our Varsity.  This year we were 7-2.  What a turn around!  We lost to Muscle Shoals by 9 points and to Red Bay by 11 points.  We played Red Bay twice and beat the the 1st game.  We were also missing a few of our varsity players.  I had several coaches brag on our improvement.  We got to see Hatton and Lexington play and I think we will hang with them this year and have a chance to beat both teams if we continue to work hard.
We had a few younger girls come play with us on the JV squad.  Mary Brooke Willis, Hannah Holt, Anna-Katherine Green (8th graders) and Abby Stutts (7th grader) helped us out in the JV games.  They did a good job.

Coach Helton, Coach Cross and I really felt good about this year's summer camps.  We hope to build on these positive experiences.  A big thanks to the girls for all of their hard work.

Here are some pictures from Lipscomb camp.
